On March 3rd the sixth release of GnackTrack was opened to the public. (I realize the post is a bit late but I was revamping this site.) One of the most prominent features of this release is the addition of a single button that themes the entire system to look like Windows XP. It overall is a very good and graphically pleasing penetration testing Linux distro. I hope that future releases encourage software designers to take a good look at the security of their products and that they benefit from systems like this; to test and re-test their software before rushing it to the market. I’m sure Microsoft Windows could take quite a few pointers before coming up with Windows 8.
A new project is underway with Mozilla Labs; they have developed a browser which allows interface designers to create customized browsers using only HTML, CSS, and Javascript. The impact of this experiment can go way beyond plugins like Firefox Personas and allow anyone to create their own browsing experience. After just 10 minutes of looking through the sourcecode I was able to set the homepage and give a nice pattern around the top URL bar. It’s in the pre-alpha stage as of writing this post but it appears to be a promising project from Mozilla.
The chromeless concept along with the release of Firefox 4, may mark the beginning of the end for useless browsers like Microsoft Internet Explorer (which is long-due for a silent death). I will continue to support Mozilla’s efforts to better the web and take modern technology to the next level (The Concept Series). Let this serve as a reminder that open-source will only get stronger as large corporations strive to drown out freedom of software.
Is it just me or does the news, online and offline, seem to lag behind the times by a lot? I keep seeing articles for stuff that’s like “duh, we knew that a year ago”. Something like Microsoft gives up on the Kin, eyes Windows Phone 7 seems like a no-brainer just by seeing their cheesy commercials. There are other examples but I’m writing this at 4am and don’t feel like lurking around for an example of a pathetic news story, hence the first thing I see on CNN.
Also, what’s with all the bad news? It certainly fits into a conspiracy theory of keeping the citizens in fear. When is the last time you heard a news story that didn’t involve murder, theft, war, assault, or any other number of depressing issues. Hell, Jon Stewart should just take over Fox News… Comedian for president! Oh wait, our president is an actor, my bad.
On another note I think North Dakota has turned into the Congo, no seriously. The weather is making my head spin from allergies and I can’t believe I’m writing this at 3am. I must really have no life if I’m posting a blog about the modern news influence on pathetic society. No offense to you guys but citizens seem weak today compared to soldiers of the colonial times or even fricken 50 years ago. We have become a nation of pushovers which is why people (you know who you are) think they can overtake America with no problem. Yes I am enacting my freedom-of-speech right. So take that George Washington!
