Trinity Rescue Kit & BitDefender
Although I mostly use Linux there comes a time when you need to use Windows for one thing or another. Almost always, disaster strikes. In this case it was a series of trojans, rootkit droppers, and various adware. My browser was no longer mine, it was the victim of a cruel and unrelenting trail of popups, malware downloads, and just plain crashes. After a while things began to look grim. I remembered several Linux rescue discs and finally decided to try out two:
BitDefender and
Trinity Rescue Kit (BitDefender is included in Trinity’s toolkit but I ran it separately anyways). Trinity has a strong barebone Linux feel, and BitDefender has a nice GUI with some basic programs. It would be a gross understatement to say that they
helped. A very (very) long night later my computer was in good health. I’m proud to have used Linux-powered tools to remove over a dozen infected files.
